Doug Kleine, CAE

Doug Kleine is Executive Director of the Association for Conflict Resolution. He has been a professional association manager since 1979, when he joined the Community Associations Institute (CAI) where he held various positions in membership, conferences, chapters, publications, public policy, public relations and director of foundation activities over the span of 11 years. He served as Interim Executive Director of the Washington, DC Chapter of CAI, and Executive Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, Entomological Society of America, and National Association of Housing Cooperatives. Doug's work has been recognized with awards for best professional journal, best newsletter, and best public awareness campaign. He received the Management Excellence Award from the Chicago Society of Association Executives for the financial and strategic turnaround of the Soil and Water Conservation Society, and the Award of Excellence from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for innovations and best practices in human resource management. Doug has written about non profit management in Association Management, Forum, Quorum, Board Briefs, Dollars & Sense, Marketing Fast Facts, Conventions and Exhibitions, and Executive Idealink. He has served on the ASAE Executive Council and CEO Advisory Council, and he had led ASAE peer review teams that evaluate other associations. He earned the Certified Association Executive designation in 1994 and has been recertified four times.

Terri A. Lankford

Terri Lankford is Director of Membership and Marketing for ACR. With over 10 years of experience specializing in member communications for national associations, she brings to ACR a professional standard of service and a drive to facilitate solutions to members' needs.

Her prior association management experience includes serving as Director of Communications & Membership Services for WineAmerica (formerly American Vintners Association), Director of Marketing & Membership with the National Association of Housing Cooperatives, and as Membership Director for the Commissioned Officers Association of the U.S. Public Health Service. Most recently she served as Director of Membership & Marketing for the American Association of Exporters & Importers. In addition to her expertise in membership recruitment and retention, Terri spent a number of years developing and marketing innovative programs and special events for Club Corporation of America, a world-class, upscale private dining corporation and provided guidance in best practices for 30 clubs in states in the Northeast as Member Relations Regional Specialist. She received her B.A. in Arts & Humanities/Speech Communication from the University of Maryland at College Park.

 

Marisa McCrone

Marisa McCrone is the Editorial Assistant, Production Manager, and Graphic Designer for ACR publications, including ACResolution magazine and ACR Update, and assists on all Annual Conference publicity. She is a magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Syracuse University, where she received a B.A. degree with double majors in International Relations and English and Textual Studies, and a minor in Political Science. Her concentration in International Relations included a focus on war and conflict resolution and foreign policy, and a geographic focus on Africa. She was the recipient of the Jean Marie Richards Memorial Award at Syracuse University for excellence in English and distinction in writing and she spent time studying at Oxford University in England. Her previous work experience includes positions at a non-profit children’s social service organization, an environmental protection agency, and an internship at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

 

Audrey R. Rothstein , CAE

Audrey Rothstein is ACR’s Director of Communications. She has more than 15 years of association management experience specializing in communications and marketing. Prior to coming to ACR, Audrey was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the American Occupational Therapy Association. Before that, she was the Associate Executive Director at the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. Audrey also served as the Editor at the American Iron and Steel Institute.

Audrey is a former chair of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Communications Council, and she has served as a marketing and public relations instructor for two online courses offered by ASAE. Audrey earned the Certified Association Executive designation in 1998, and she has recertified three times. Audrey also is a member of American Women for International Understanding and was selected as an American delegate to China in a leadership program hosted by the All China Women’s Federation.

Audrey earned her B.S. in Journalism at the University of Maryland.

 

David H. Solin

David H. Solin is the ACR Meeting Planner. He has extensive experience in meetings management and customer service. Previously, David worked as a meeting planner for the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC). He spent six years overseeing executive meetings for the AAHC. David received his B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from The Pennsylvania State University.

 

 

Paulette A. Washington

Paulette Washington has joined ACR as the office manager. She brings years of experience in office management, meeting planning, customer service and an educational background in computers. Previously, Paulette worked as the office and meetings manager at the National Association for Science and the Environment, in Washington, DC.

Monet King

Monet King, Member Concierge/Sections, graduated from Howard University where she studied Advertising and Fashion Merchandising. As a student, she applied her communication skills by writing for the school's newspaper, The Hilltop, and helped students as a Career Mentor in the John H. Johnson Career Development Center on campus. Monet has honed her skills in customer service and membership relations while working as a manager at Nordstrom and most recently, at a small event company, TerraCom in DC, where she handled registration for conferences and special events.

Madeline Palmer

Madeline Palmer, Member Concierge/Renewals, Chapters, attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning her B.S.B.A in Marketing. She went beyond her regular studies to pursue additional education in studio arts, urban studies, and public writing. Outside of her studies she spent her time grassroots organizing with various student groups, advocating cultural diversity, and tutoring and mentoring high school students within the DC public school system. Madeline has worked with both corporate and non-profits for the past nine years including the US Senate (under Carl Levin, MI); KPMG; BET, Inc; the Hispanic Communication Network; the College Board; the Collegiate YMCA of Pittsburgh; PEPCO; and the Association for American Medical Colleges among others. Madeline brings nine years of experience in Marketing, member relations, registration, accounting, and information systems.  She comes to us from the American Heart Association were she was the Grassroots Intern/Interim Grassroots Coordinator for their National Advocacy Department, where she focused on advocate relations, research and local, state, and federal advocacy issues. Madeline has high interest in youth and diversity enrichment programs. When she isn’t working hard she’s cooking, mentoring students, or dabbling in photography.

As a CPA in private practice, Alan provides financial management services to ACR. Alan holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland and has over 25 years of business experience. Before starting his CPA practice with SPIDR as one of his first clients in 1996 (and NAFCM and CREnet in 1999), Alan directed a real estate management company.


Sharon Pickett, ACR Senior Associate Emeritus

Sharon provides communications consulting services to a wide range of progressive nonprofit organizations, including ACR. Sharon helped write the grant to the Hewlett Foundation that funded the formation of ACR and has worked on numerous ACR projects since 2000, including creating and editing ACResolution magazine. Sharon works as a family mediator and trainer in Bethesda, Maryland.  She has a master's degree from Dartmouth College.


Susan Summers Raines, Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief of Conflict Resolution Quarterly

Susan S. Raines is an Associate Professor of Conflict Management at Kennesaw State University, near Atlanta. She teaches graduate courses in civil and domestic relations mediation, cross-cultural communication, international conflict resolution, research methods and program evaluation.  In addition to her academic pursuits, she designs and evaluates alternative dispute resolution programs for state and federal agencies, facilitates public meetings and regulatory negotiations, mediates court-connected cases at all levels, and provides training for mediators both domestically and internationally. She is an ACR Family Section Advanced Practitioner, has co-chaired the Online Dispute Resolution section of ACR and was the 2006 President of the Georgia chapter of ACR. She publishes regularly in a broad array of journals on topics ranging from environmental mediation, to online dispute resolution and peace education. Originally from Sacramento, she received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 2002 and now lives in Georgia with her husband and two children.
