This institute is an excellent gateway
into places beyond reason and emotion where our
true wisdom and best skills reside. Ken Cloke facilitates
discussion about the Spiritual Techniques and the
Heart Techniques of conflict engagement for the
practitioner. He discusses the topics of intention,
energy, life force, use of rituals, and the art
of questioning. Erica Ariel Fox facilitates discussion
about the Insight Initiative program. Participants
will learn the Beyond Yes method that moves negotiators
from competence toward mastery and a system using
"archetypes and autobiography". Participants
will draw on presentations, reflection, partner
and group exercises, and simple insight practices.

to Environmental and Public Policy Consensus Building

EPP Diversity Mentoring Program participants
This
training is designed by the Environmental and
Public Policy Sector as part of a program to diversify
the EPP Section. Institute participants will learn
about the contexts, practices, and processes to
collaborate and build consensus on natural resource,
land use, transportation, energy, public health,
and social policy issues. This training highlights
the differences between dispute resolution and
mediation and the collaborative and strategic
processes used in the environment and public policy
sector. Participants will practice assessment
and process design with an environmental justice
exercise.

in-depth discussion of restorative justice philosophy,
an introduction to practical implications outside
the criminal justice arena, skill building exercises,
and a visioning exercise.

This institute offers the Milan Systemic Model
of asking questions and its applicability to mediation.
Participants will view a DVD of a mediation and
will role play using questioning techniques. Through
group analysis and discussion participants will
look at how to use these techniques to effect
change.
