The Mediation Center of San Joaquin and The University of the Pacific School of International Studies will celebrate International Conflict Resolution Day with the presentation of the 13th annual Peacemaker of the Year Award and guest speaker Dr. Janet Bennett, co-director of the Intercultural Communication Institute (ICI).

Colorado

October 16, 2008 has been Proclaimed Conflict Resolution Day in the State of Colorado by Governor William Ritter, Jr.

 

The University of Denver, University College Conflict Resolution Program will host a dinner to celebrate Conflict Resolution Day on October 16 at DU in honor of local individuals and organizations who work to mitigate gang violence in Denver. Awardees include advocates representing city government, the law enforcement community, and nonprofit organizations. Contact: Denise Pearson (303) 871-3964.


The Conflict Center - Will promote and celebrate CR Day in 3 elementary schools and 2 high schools. In addition, the Reading For Peace program will engage kids and RFP adult volunteers throughout one elementary school. Contact: Vickie Samland 303-433-4983

 

Community College of Aurora will be conducting a lunch-time event for International Conflict Resolution Day, October 16, 2008. Contact: Robin Rossenfeld, 303.340.7255, robin.rossenfeld@ccaurora.edu.

 

The Imagine Peace Foundation will present representatives from the Department of Peace campaign's adult and student groups presenting the non-violent goals of this effort and ideas for grassroot organizing for peaceful change on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. 

 

Regis University and The Conflict Center will host a speaker in October as part of an ongoing speaker series.

 

University of Colorado Boulder is planning a number of events during the week.

Texas

Conflict Resolution Network, a non-profit organization in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, is inviting area teachers and administrators to attend a free presentation about Conflict Resolution Education in K-12 schools in celebration of Conflict Resolution Day. Program and curricula providers will also be available to visit with school representatives. We hope to enhance and broaden the understanding of CRE in schools and introduce more people to the field of conflict resolution.

Lionel Bobot, professor and manager of the Conflict Resolution & Negotiation Department at NEGOCIA Business School at Paris, will organize an event on "Conflict Resolution between Corporations" for Conflict Resolution Day on October 16, 2008 at the school ADVANCIA-NEGOCIA (Paris Chamber of Commerce, www.negocia.fr) in partnership with the Center for Mediation and Arbitration of Paris (CMAP). Founded in 1992 by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP), NEGOCIA is one of the leading French business schools. It is comprised of several different programs, all oriented towards marketing, sales and negotiation.
