Presented by Dr. Joshua Weiss

Paths are a point of connection, a place where people come together. Perhaps more than any other time in modern American history we need to come together as a people to discuss our serious and real differences and see what we can do as a country before we are torn apart. A recent article from National Public Radio even discussed the possibility of the unthinkable to many – a second civil war. So, what can we, in the conflict resolution field, do to help prevent this from happening and do what we do best, bring people together who otherwise struggle to do so? While many people are doing wonderful things at the local level, we need to do something nationally. But what? My answer is the Purple Path. The Purple Path, named for the coming together of red and blue, would be a physical path or route where people of all backgrounds and beliefs could walk, talk, and engage with each other to discuss their differences and find ways forward for the country. There are many people on both sides of the isle, and in the middle, who crave such and outlet and vehicle. The Purple Path could also be a way of stitching together local initiatives that might take place on such a route. This session would talk about the possibilities of such an endeavor and use a real world example, the Abraham Path, as an example of what is possible.
