Barbara Melamed

 

 

Barbara received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, her PhD in psychology from the University of Wisconsin and Masters Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Univ. of Hawaii. Her appointments included  Deanship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY.  Currently she is board certified by the American Association of Professional Psychology in Clinical Health Psychology. She is Director of Behavior Medicine Associates, faculty at University of Hawaii, and John Burns School of Medicine. She is consultant on legal issues of workmen’s compensation, family violence,  and job harassment. As an active member of Mediators Beyond Borders International,  she co-authored the Trauma Informed Peace Building Curriculum (UNESCO and MBB).  She is active in Violence Prevention Task Force and the International Violence, Abuse & Trauma. Also  active in Association of Brain Research and Education.

In the immediate aftermath of 9/11 as a faculty at Mercy College she formulated crisis intervention for those who lost their loved ones. Her published research on effects of violence includes the World Trade Center, US Military, the Croatian-Bosnian War. She has worked with PTSD, brain trauma, HIV families  and immigrants’ rights. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Gandhi International Institute for Peace.
